Week One #Fit4Mich #C25K

It’s been a little over a week since my last post “If Not Now, When?!” where I shared my plan to get healthy. I promised many of you that I’d keep you posted so here we go. It is my hope that sharing my journey in public will keep me motivated and honest.  So, let’s start at the beginning of week one with photos, measurements and … (gulp) … the tale of the scale.

Drum roll please!

My scale on Day 1 (June 20, 2013):


Okay, so I’m not at my heaviest which was 257 after I had my son 21 years ago, but damn.  I’m only 5’1″ so I’ve got a long way to go. I’m not sure I measured correctly, but my neck is 14.5 inches, waist is 44 inches and 52 inches for my hips.  And they don’t lie.  🙂

My goal is to exercise at least 3 times a week and lose 1 pound a week.  I plan to eat more healthy and not eat the quantities I used to while learning how to maintain balance of good with bad.  This will be my toughest challenge:  balance.

There was a time in my life when I could balance. This pic was taken around 2003 with one of my bestest buddies Juanita. I worked out regularly then and weighed 167ish.  This is where I want to be one year from when I started #Fit4Mich.  I will wear this outfit on June 24, 2014. Book it, Dano!

I’m using the MyFitnessPal App to help me keep track of my calories and  C25K (Couch To 5K) to get me moving.  C25K is an easy intro for me to walk and run in small increments and help build my endurance over time.  Both apps are very helpful and for the first time in a long time, I’m enjoying myself while exercising.  And man oh man, do I have more energy!

If you had told me a couple weeks ago that I would have been to the gym 5 times in one week, was running 5 minutes and walking 25 minutes at each visit, I would’ve laughed in your face.  Loudly.  But I did it, and despite feeling sore all over, it feels really good.

Day 3 (June 24, 2013) I actually lost weight!  This is really happening.

Here are my cats Jack Daniels Bauer and Moo Moo in the middle of my home office floor wondering what the heck I’m doing going out so early in the morning.  Well, Jack is. =)

And for the end of the first “week,” Day 5 (June 28, 2013) … a total weight loss of 4.6 lbs!

It could have been more had I not eaten some of the food I did, but I’m getting there day by day.  Baby steps, right?  Chulo Handsomehub and I even went to Fleet Feet today and bought new running shoes.  I’m excited about running shoes.  Hell has frozen over.  HA!
