Today in Texas History: The Battle of San Jacinto, April 21, 1836 #txhx

It was today in 1836 that General Sam Houston led the volunteer Texian army to defeat General Santa Anna and the Mexican army at the Battle of San Jacinto.

As Texas soldiers rushed into battle they shouted, “Remember the Alamo!” and “Remember Goliad!” And within around 20 minutes, our victory decided the independence of Texas and freedom from Mexico.

“Texas will again lift it’s head and stand among the nations. It ought to do so, for no country upon the globe can compare with it in natural advantages.” ~ Sam Houston
