Today in 1955, Earl Christian Campbell was born in Tyler, Texas.
At the University of Texas, Campbell rushed for a career 4,444 yards, 41 touchdowns and won the 1977 Heismann Trophy.
He was the NFL Rookie of the Year and League MVP in 1978 while playing for the Houston Oilers and also led the Oilers to two AFC championship games in 1978 and 1979.
Campbell is a successful businessman in Austin and still participates in University of Texas Athletics. He serves as President of Earl Campbell Meat Products, Inc. which makes yummy Earl Campbell’s ® Smoked Sausage, various other food products and barbeque sauce. All made in Texas!
