On this day in 1836, Texas became a Republic.
In the early morning hours of March 2, 1836, a convention of delegates from 17 Mexican municipalities of Texas voted unanimously to accept the resolution calling for independence from Mexico who “ceased to protect the lives, liberty, and property of the people, from whom its legitimate powers are derived.”
The Texas Declaration of Independence was adopted at Washington-on-the-Brazos and an ad interim government was formed.
Happy Texas Independence Day y’all!
How are you celebrating this glorious day?
“Throughout the day no time for memorandums now. Go ahead! Liberty and independence forever.” ~ Davy Crockett
