1400 Days of Terror: Caligula or the US Senate?

Can you imagine living your life without having to budget your finances? Most Americans cannot go years with no financial responsibility, but our U.S. Senate has been doing just that for 1400 days by not passing a budget. And no, it’s not Bush’s fault. The United States Senate is led and controlled by the Democrats and they’ve not passed their annual budget plan since April 29, 2009.

1400 days.

I watched the news this morning and saw no alarm, no breaking news investigation of how our government can go YEARS without a budget and instead just spend, spend, spend.

Where is the outrage?

So, in my researching what was happening 1400 days ago, I came across this great video from Senator Roy Blunt of Missouri showing fun facts from April 2009.

For example, in April 2009:

  • No one knew how the TV show “Lost” ended.
  • Lebron James was still playing for the Cleveland Caveliers.
  • MySpace had more daily visitors than Facebook.
  • Oprah was still on TV.
  • No one heard of Snooki.

Oh, and our federal debt was LESS THAN $12 Trillion. (psst, now it’s over $16 trillion)

Contact your United States Senator TODAY. Be polite, but share your outrage at their irresponsibility of not passing a budget. And tell your friends and family to do the same. Call. Write. Email. Don’t let them get away with not doing their job.

Don’t leave it to someone else, you ARE someone else!

“To increase demand and lift the economy, the Federal Government’s most useful role is not to push into a program of excessive increases in public expenditures, but to expand the incentives and opportunities for private expenditures…When consumers purchase more goods, plants use more of their capacity, men are hired instead of laid off, investment increases and profits are high. Corporate tax rates must also be cut to increase incentives and the availability of investment capital.” ~ John F. Kennedy
