February 24: Today in Texas History #txhx

Today in 1836, William Barret Travis, under attack at The Alamo while commanding Texans against Mexican forces, wrote his famous letter addressed “To the People of Texas and All Americans in the World,” requesting reinforcements while promising to “Never surrender or retreat.”

The famous “Victory or Death” letter has returned to San Antonio for the first time since it was dispatched by Travis during battle. The letter will be on display at The Alamo Church until March 7, 2013. I cannot wait to go to San Antonio to see this exhibit! Do you plan on seeing it too?

“[If this call is neglected] I am determined to sustain myself for as long as possible, and die like a soldier who never forgets what is due to his own honor and that of his country.” ~ William Barret Travis
