Wreaths Across America

During this Christmas season, I will be sharing information where your gift will keep on giving and today, I’d like to tell you about Wreaths Across America (WAA).  The mission of WAA is to “Remember, Honor, Teach” and is carried out on the second Saturday of December each year at veterans cemeteries and other locations in all 50 states.  WAA was founded to continue and expand the wreath laying ceremony began by businessman, Morrill Worcester of Maine in 1992 at Arlington National Cemetery.

Now in over 600 locations, WAA has scheduled a week of events with thousands of volunteers who help organize, participate and raise funds to place wreaths on the graves of our veterans.  There is no government funding for WAA and the goal this year is to place 500,000 wreaths on our veterans graves this Saturday, December 10, 2011.  What a difference a day can make!

How can you help?

My oldest son has volunteered at the Wreaths Across America – Houston event since he was in high school and being the daughter of an Army veteran, I personally have found it a rewarding and emotional experience to help lay wreaths at the Houston National Cemetery.

So as you decorate your homes, write out your cards, schedule parties and shop for that perfect gift for family and friends, please consider a donation of your time and/or sponsoring a wreath to WAA.  Our veterans are what have made our nation great and have kept her free. Please help honor them with helping WAA place a beautiful wreath from Maine at any of the 600 locations.

Thank you, God Bless and Merry Christmas!
